What is Dry Needling ?
Dry Needling is a western approach that treats myofascial pain and dysfunction. It is a technique which utilises a ‘dry needle’ to stimulate trigger points, soft tissues as well as muscular points which cause the tissues to react and manages movement and pain.
More so, it is a tissue relaxation and reduction of pain technique used to effectively to calm and treat overactive muscles and pain.
What is the difference between Acupuncture and Dry Needling
Dry needling and Acupuncture use the same tools, i.e. sterilised, fine, stainless steel needles. However, the theory behind each approach is very different. Dry needling involves the active release of trigger points in any muscle region in order to reduce pain or tension. In contrast, Acupuncture treatments are based on a Chinese Medicine theory based approach. Click here to see How does Acupuncture work?
